Two inputs, two outputs. Chimera is a neat and simple way in which to add dual extrusion to your 3D printer. It borrows parts from a number of our other HotEnds, and is compatible with the standard V6 range of blocks and nozzles.

Chimera on a Taz 4

Hey There: I have a Lulzbot Taz 4. I purchased the E3D Chimera extruder, as well as two Witbot MK8 extruder kits from Amazon.

The Chimera hot ends are heating up fine. However, when I try to have them extrude some filament, one of the MK8 extruders chatters and does not feed the filament through.

I'm wondering if i need to add a stepper motor to the mix? If so, can I used the stepper motors from my Taz 4 dual extruder head?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi William,

The MK8 extruders are ungeared so they may not be able to output the torque required to overcome the back pressure of our nozzles.

The recommended extruder for the Chimera+ is the titan extruder (https://e3d-online.com/titan-extruder) with a compact but powerful motor (https://e3d-online.com/motors-compact-bu....

Other than that you may be able to increase the torque output of the MK8 extruder by usign a geared stepper motor such as this one: https://e3d-online.com/motors-geared-ste...
