How to clean the hot side and prevent clogging?

Hi there,

I have just installed the Cyclops and wondered how to clean the hot side (the mixing head) in case of clogging? When printing pieces in one colour only, is there a risk in clogging the filament path of the unused side?

If so, can this be prevented by adding post print Gcode for purging filament from the unused side?

Hi Harco,

There isn’t an easy way to clean the Cyclops due to the complex melt zone, the advice is to always print with both sides loaded and not to use retraction if possible. Yes you can use a post print gcode to prevent cooking unused filament, or you could extrude some of the unused side after the print has finished using the LCD either way would help keep the filament fresh.

If you do need to clean, heating up the unit to melt out plastic and using acetone or other suitable solvent would be the way to go.
