Scaffold snap is a specialist support material that's designed to easily break away from the part and leave a good surface finish behind. Unlike scaffold, scaffold snap is not soluble in water.

Why won't ABS stick to it?

I am using Hatchbox ABS filament with Scaffold Snap support material. Both nozzles are set to 240C and the bed is at 105C. The scaffold sticks very well to the bed, but when the ABS tries to extrude on top, it just forms a blob at the end of the nozzle and slides across the scaffold material. I have used the Hatchbox ABS on its own many times without issue.

Hi James.

Have you tried to use other brands of ABS, it could be that there are additives in the Hatchbox Filament that is inhibiting bonding (not saying this is the case, but it may be a possibility). Another possibility could be that the ABS nozzle is set too high and is therefore not getting good layer bonding (similar to how the first layer doesn’t stick to the bed if the nozzle is too far away.)
